His name is Valery Spiridonov and he’s a 31 year old computer-scientist from Russian. At first glance, it’s obvious that he’s in a motorized wheelchair and is a lot smaller than the average man his age. Spiridonov has spinal muscular atrophy, which causes problems with moving, eating and breathing. Most people with this disorder don’t live beyond 20 years.
But based off his condition and appearance, you probably won’t be able to guess what body part he plans to have transplanted. The transplant will be performed by Italian surgeon Dr. Sergio Canavero in December 2017.
